Progress not Perfection

One of the mantras I’ve been repeating for the past few weeks is “Progress not Perfection”.  I’m sure it has been said by many people, but I most recently heard it from Marie Forleo.

Whenever I’m getting beaten up by Resistance and I’m getting distracted from doing work, those three words give me hope.  And help me carry on.

Take a step forward.  That’s all you have to do.  Write a paragraph.  Practice one song.  Start a sketch.  Make one phone call.

It’s great to have goals and to have a destination.  But sometimes we let the end result daunt us from moving forward.  Figure out how you are going to get to where you want to go and then follow those steps.

Obviously, if the steps aren’t working, you should come up with a new plan.  But most of the time, we get overwhelmed by how far we still need to go and we let that stall us.

Repeat after me:  Progress not Perfection.
