How Is It 38 Years Already?

Deb and I were talking about our wedding. She asked me what I remembered about the day.

Where did you sleep the night before? What did you do in the morning? How was your day up to the wedding?

I don’t remember a lot of the details. I had to guess a bit. Tony’s apartment? Got my hair cut? Nerve-racking?

The main thing I remember about that day:

Deb entering the church with her parents and walking towards the altar.

Towards me.

And in that moment, I felt a rush of joy. An overwhelming happiness that almost knocked me over.

I started to cry. I was so happy. So joyful.

I had never felt that way before.

I’ve felt that way a few times since then. And it’s all because of Deb.

The birth of our three kids. The birth of our grandchildren.

Today is our 38th anniversary. We started dating 40 years ago.

How is it 38 years already?

When I think of Deb walking towards me all those years ago, I get an echo of the joy I felt then. I’m so grateful and happy and lucky to be able to spend my life with her.

Happy 38th Anniversary, Deb!
