I was talking to my friend the other day. And I mentioned that I weigh myself every day.
“Obsess, much?” Drew asked.
And I had to think about it.
I mean I blog about my weight loss journey a fair amount.
And I do weigh myself every day.
A few times during the day, even.
But I think of it more as habit, than obsession.
I want to get to my marathon weight of 180lbs.
And what gets measured, gets managed. As they say.
I started tracking my weight eleven years ago with another buddy. Mike.
We both wanted to lose weight and thought some friendly competition would help.
We kept it up for two and half years. Posting our daily weights and tallying up who had lost the most weight during the month.
We were trying to get down to 200lbs.
We stopped tracking our weights in the Fall of 2016. But we decided that we would go for KFC if we got down to 200lbs.
Mike passed away in early 2017.
Neither of us reached our KFC weight.
Shortly after Mike died, I decided to start tracking my weight again. And try to get to that KFC Weight.
It took me two years, but I got there.
And I got me some KFC.
Now, I’m in pursuit of the Marathon Weight.
I’ve been at it for almost five years now.
Maybe I am obsessed.
A little, anyway.
You need a dash of obsession to pursue your goals.
It’s not the only thing I think about.
But I guess I do think about it more than I realize.
