Ending the Year Looking Forward

New Year’s Eve was like Christmas Eve.

It was just Deb and me, this year.

We briefly entertained the idea of going out for New Year’s Eve at the beginning of the month.

Our friend Shari was going to be performing at a New Year’s Eve bash.

Unfortunately, people like us didn’t sign up soon enough, so it got canceled.

And that was the extent of our planning to go out for the evening.

Deb and I ended up having some sushi and wine at home.

And doing a goal setting exercise.

What better way to end the year than to make plans for next year?

And the coming years, too…

No deadlines were set.

Just coming up with ideas for things we’d like to do.

I think the most important part of the exercise was to share with each other what kinds of things we want to do.

Although we were coming up with ideas independently, we shared notes afterward.

There were some shared goals.

We both would like to go somewhere warm and hang out on a beach.

We both want to be able to go visit our kids whenever we want.

There might be some dancing lessons in our future…

As we get older, it’s important to still want to do things.

To still have goals.

To still make long range plans.

And as long as we’re able, it’s nice to be able to do those things together.
