It’s been a while since I gave an update on my quest to reach my Marathon Weight. And to be honest, not much has happened.
In the first six months of 2025, my average weight has been 199.8lbs. Going down a little one month and going back up a little the next month.
During that time, I’ve been sticking to doing some Intermittent Fasting. But I had trouble breaking away from the snacking. And staying up late
Six weeks ago, I started on something called WildFit. The premise of WildFit is simple. Our bodies evolved to adapt to seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. This is how our pre-civilization ancestors survived.
During late summer and Fall, we would eat the harvest and build up our fat stores. To help us prepare for Winter. The abundance of food in the Fall helped us do that. During Winter, we would use up a lot of the fat stores because there wasn’t much food around.
When Spring came, we would lose the remaining fat that we no longer needed. And the process would start all over.
But in modern civilisation, there is no dietary Winter. Food is available all the time. And some foods like sugar (in all its forms) trigger the fat storing response. So, we are always “preparing” for a Winter that never comes.
Spring in WildFit means cutting out all fruits and sweet vegetables. Not forever. Just for the “season”. And cutting out dairy, grains, caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. Nicotine isn’t such a challenge for me since I don’t smoke. Oh, and no processed foods.
The first five weeks were laying the groundwork by removing a couple of the items a week. And, more importantly, listening to your internal dialogue around food.
This week is the first week of “Spring” for me. Since a lot of the changes have been gradual over the last few weeks, it’s been easy. My biggest challenge this week is getting used to the smoothie with no fruits in it for sweetness.
For the first few weeks, there wasn’t much of a change in my weight. But last week, I noticed that my weight started to go down.
Not a lot. But I’m at my lowest weight of the year, so far. And I’m eating a lot more than usual.
I’m only at week 6 of the program. And it’s 13 weeks. Halfway point. So, I’ll carry on see how this goes. But it might make me want to stay in the Wild!
