Shortly after my birthday, I came up with three priorities for the year.
- Get my weight down to 180lbs.
- Write a full-length play.
- Reduce our debt.
And for March, I looked at that list every day.
To make sure that those priorities stayed top of mind. I tried to find some step every day to move forward on those goals.
I plan to do the same in April. But to add some sub-goals to help move me along.
In April, I will do the following to work on those priorities:
- Get my weight down to 197lbs.
- I will write 20 pages of script.
- I will make 2 lumpsum payments on our new furnace.
I found looking at the list daily was helpful. But having the sub-goals will help focus the action into small steps.
And I guess I could break down the steps even more.
April Week One:
- Get weight down to 199lbs.
- Write 5 pages of script.
April Week Two:
- Get weight down to 198.5lbs.
- Write 5 pages of script.
- Make an extra payment on the furnace.
April Week Three:
- Get weight down to 198lbs.
- Write 5 pages of script.
April Week Four:
- Get weight down to 197lbs.
- Write 5 pages of script.
- Make an extra payment on the furnace.
Of course, I will have other things to work on during April.
I still have my lines to get down. And work on my songs.
I don’t have to train for the Around the Bay anymore, but I will still do some running.
As usual, planning is often more important that executing the plan. Priorities can change. Things will come up.
But at least with a plan, I have a sense of where I will be going this month.
Whether I get there or not remains to be seen…
