Sentence by Sentence

I’m working on the first draft of a project.

I’ve had a couple of false starts in the last couple of years.

With other projects.

This one might get to the first stage.

A rough draft.

Or the “vomit draft”.

Basically, it’s writing all the clunky stuff in your head and not worrying about how it sounds.

It’s harder to do than you’d think.

Your inner editor can work overtime telling you how crappy it is.

You’ve got to ignore it and get it done.

And I’m doing it slowly.

One sentence at a time.

That’s the target.

Write at least one sentence a day.

Fortunately, I usually write a little more than a sentence.

But not much more.

Consistency is more important than quantity at this point.

If I can do a little bit every day, I will get there.

I even had a dream recently that I knew where the project was going.

I don’t.

But it was nice to have that dream.

I know that if I keep writing, I will discover where it’s going.

I’m getting close to the point where the story will start pulling me along.

I’m not there yet though.

And I can’t push it.

Not yet.

So, I’ll keep the sentence-by-sentence target going.
