Food FOMO

One of the biggest temptations for me is Food FOMO. Fear Of Missing Out.

If someone brings in a treat, I want to have some.

It’s easy to justify the indulgence. Just this once…

The problem is that there’s always something that provokes the FOMO reaction.

Two for one Teen Burgers! Free pizza! Homemade brownies!

In the moment, I rarely regret the feast.

But the following day, regret comes calling.

And the thing that gets me? It’s temporary.

The food dances over your taste buds for a moment and then it’s gone.

And it isn’t like I was craving the thing that I snarf down. It’s an opportunity. To indulge.

The FOMO isn’t as strong when I’m fasting. But it doesn’t go away completely.

And if the temptation is during my eating time? Forget about it!

It’s Chow Time!!

I think the Food FOMO is a holdover from when we were Hunter Gatherers. You never knew when your next meal would be. So, if you saw an opportunity to binge, you took it.

It’s difficult to go against thousands of years of hardwiring. Even when most of us have plenty to eat every day.

I wish it were easier to turn off the FOMO.

For now, I’ll try stay focused on the Intermittent Fasting.

And hope that it continues to short circuit some of my FOMO when temptation comes my way.
