Adventures in AI

Yes, this photo was made with ChatGPT

AI is everywhere these days. You see it in social media posts. And internet memes.

Soon we won’t be able to believe anything that we see online!

But is AI bad?

It’s a tool.

And it’s the wielder of the tool that decides to use it for good or bad.

Seth Godin has mentioned in his blog that we need to get used to AI. And start using it or we’ll be left behind as it becomes even more pervasive.

And yes, it will probably put some of us out of jobs. Just as any innovation has put people out of jobs. But it’s better to get familiar with the tool instead of bemoaning its existence.

I played around with ChatGPT last year to get it to help me write a business case. I used ChatGPT because I had kept putting off getting started with the business case.

After plugging in the information, it gave me what I needed. In seconds.

I procrastinated for weeks. And it produced something in seconds.

It wasn’t perfect. I had to tweak it a little. But it got me over the hump of “getting started”, which often prevents me from getting things done.

But after that, I didn’t use it anymore.

Until last week.

I decided that I should try to get to play some more with AI.

And it’s crazy what you can do!

I haven’t even scratched the surface and I’m overwhelmed.

In the last week, I’ve used ChatGPT to:

My fridge with the homemade herb salsa
  • Come up with a training plan
  • Plan a week of meals at the cottage and come up with a grocery list
  • Review my personal goals and set up a tracker to help me realize them
  • Give it a picture of my fridge and have it come up with a recipe for dinner!

Here’s the crazy thing about the picture of the fridge…

ChatGPT recognized a container of homemade herb salsa. It’s on the second shelf from the top, near the right side, in front of a cabbage.

Homemade herb salsa!

And had me incorporate it in the recipe!

There are other AI applications out there. Too many to name. To make music. To make videos. To make photos. On and on.

My adventure with AI has just started…

But I’m curious to see where it will take me.
