Sailing into Port

Just over a year ago, I started this project.

To write 365 blog posts.

It took a little longer than I thought.

Instead of 12 months, it took me 15 months.

Still, not bad.

I wrote more posts in the last 15 months than I had written in the previous 13 years!

Wow.

Seth Godin was the inspiration to post almost daily.

I’m not going to keep it up. It’s a lot of work.

But I will post more frequently that I had BEFORE I did this challenge.

If I can average a post a week, I’ll be happy. 52 posts a year. Seems doable, especially after this challenge.

One of the big takeaways from this project was that I shouldn’t try to be perfect.

It used to take me about 90 minutes to write a post.

Now, I don’t over think it.

Just write and get it done.

Progress over perfection.

I found planning helpful, but I rarely used the planned topics.

Often, I’d put off the “planned” topic because something else popped into my head as I sat down to write.

I still have 225 blog post ideas that I haven’t used.

Not all of them are good. And many will probably never get used.

And let’s be honest, not all of my posts in the last 15 months have been good.

But they got done.

And sometimes quantity is better to focus on than quality.

The year before this challenge, I only wrote 16 posts.

I’m sure that I can find more “good” posts out of the 365 I’ve just written than I can in the 16 from the previous year.

I feel more comfortable writing and getting it out there.

Which will probably have a trickle effect on the other kinds of writing I do.
