Last year, I signed up for this year’s Around the Bay Road Race.
Before I ran the 2024 one.
Talk about optimism!
And now, I’m realizing that it’s only two months away!
Last year, I wasn’t consistent with my training.
I started late.
And I didn’t do much of it.
This time, I’ve been running a few times a week since the Fall.
I’m hoping to run a little faster this year.
But the goal is to finish.
Gravy would be doing a little better than my time last year.
So much comes into play during the race.
You don’t know what the weather is going to be like.
I’ve run the race in rain. In snow. In gloriously sunny days.
You don’t know how you’re going to feel on the day.
Tired. Sore. Cranky.
Maybe I’ll bump into family or friends during the race?
My daughter, Tara, and her boyfriend, Dan, will be running the race.
They will be faster than me.
My friend Jason will be running. He will definitely be faster than me.
It’s not about the speed though.
It’s doing the distance.
I like pushing myself a little.
Spending time with my thoughts.
Running along roads that are usually occupied by cars.
And doing something that few people do.
Even though I’m a slow runner, few folks will run a 30 kilometer road race.
I guess it makes me feel a little special.
