Expectations Met

I submitted a play to the Hamilton Fringe Playwriting Contest.

I didn’t expect to win.

And I didn’t.

I didn’t even place in the top three.

Who knows?

Out of 54 entries, mine might have come in at 54…

I didn’t expect to win.

I didn’t expect to place.

Why did I submit a play then?

Because I wanted to get back into the groove of “shipping” some of my work.

Of getting it out there.

I’ve struggled to get back to playwriting the last couple of years.

It’s been a slog.

I’m still over-thinking things.

Worried about the product.

Instead of focusing on the process.

And sending things out is part of the process.

My friend Jennifer got a rejection the other day.

For a submission that she couldn’t remember sending out.

That’s where I’d like to be.

In a flow of writing stuff and shipping it out.

Not worried about the outcome but moving onto the next project when the current one is done.
