Clearing the Slate

I just read a post about dealing with last year’s emails.

Chris Guillebeau suggests archiving the emails from last year.

You don’t have to delete them. Just create a folder called “2024” (or whatever the year is) and move last year’s emails to it.

The emails are still there if you need them. But they aren’t in your inbox cluttering it up.

And maybe…

Just maybe…

This year will be different and you — okay, not you. I’m talking about me.

Maybe I’ll be better at keeping my inbox uncluttered.

I went from having 38,235 emails in my inbox down to 165.

And I’ve been dealing with my emails. Deleting them. Filing them.

But I’ve got 165 unread emails in my inbox already.

And that’s for 4 days of 2025!

I’m better at dealing with my emails at work.

It’s unusual for me to have more than 20 emails in my work inbox.

But at home, I’m not consistent.

And that sea of unread emails gets deeper all the time.

I could feel my shoulders relax as soon as I moved last years emails out of the inbox.

Now, I can also be more ruthless about what mail lists I’m on.

Because I’ll be able to see them.

Instead of dreading how many things I haven’t read.

I can unsubscribe from emails or newsletters that I’m no longer interested in.

Or create a rule to automatically file them to an appropriate folder.

So I can read them later but get them out of the inbox.

Sometimes all you need to do is to clear some space.

Clearing up last year’s clutter to help you make way for this year’s opportunities.
