A couple of months ago, I received a copy of Creativity: A Short and Cheerful Guide by John Cleese. My aunt Jenni sent it to me.
First, it was lovely to receive mail. It’s so unusual these days. Not just because Canada Post is on strike.
Second, it was wonderful to hear from my aunt and read her handwritten note.
Third, it was fun to read this book.
It’s short. Something that could easily be consumed in an afternoon.
But I savoured it. Reading only a page or two and letting the words sink in.
Plus, I could imagine John Cleese’s voice as I read it.
For a short book, it still provided some good insights on creativity. And gave some other sources to investigate further.
Most importantly, it helps dispel the notion of creativity being only for artists. Or something that you were born with.
Everyone can be creative. Everyone is creative.
I enjoyed reading it. Thanks, Jenni!
