We open The Game’s Afoot a week from tomorrow. And I need to do the thing I dislike the most.
Promoting the play.
I find it harder to do that than remembering my lines.
It’s such a strange thing.
I don’t mind telling people that I’m in a show.
But it feels weird trying to entice people to pay to come see it.
Spend your money on me!
It’s a hurdle that I need to overcome with every show.
What if they don’t feel it was worth it?
Is it too expensive?
What if they don’t like it? Not only will I have wasted their money, but I’ll have also wasted their time…
Yikes.
But every show needs an audience.
I need to stop thinking about the financial aspect.
The show is fun. The show is funny.
And by telling them about it, I’m giving them the option to spend their money on it or not.
It’s their choice.
Release the Hounds of Promoting!
The Game’s Afoot opens on November 8 and runs November 24. If you’re in the Hamilton area, I hope you’ll come to see it!
