The Lines are Afoot

We open our show The Game’s Afoot in less than a month.

Our fearless director set a date for us to be off book.  To know our lines, that is.

And that date has come and gone.

I can’t speak for everyone, but none of us know our lines yet!

Okay, maybe I can speak for everyone…

To be honest though, there are a few diligent actors in our merry crew that are almost there.

Unfortunately, I’m not one of them.

Ah, I had the best intentions.

But I was a little light on following through with those intentions.

I now need to suck it up and get moving.

Every day.

The key is to do it in chunks.  And focus on small bits.

And do the work.

Like most things in life, it’s simple.

Just not easy.

But I’m going to take off my thinking cap and put on my doing cap!

I’ll do the reps required to get these lines learned.

My character has a bunch of monologues, so I can’t rely on other people to help me out.

It’s funny.

No matter what the deadline is for learning my lines, I often take a little longer to get there.

Not down to the last minute, though.

That’s not fair to my fellow actors.

And it’s stressful when you struggle for lines.

Even watching others struggle for lines is stressful.

So, I’m buckling down and getting those lines learned!
