A Week of Woo Woo #2

My mother had a book called Super Learning that was in our home for years.  I picked it up and read it on a whim after I graduated from University.

One of the topics in the book was visualization.

The subject fascinated me.

There was an exercise in the book that guided you through visualizing something you wanted to accomplish.

I had just applied to the National Theatre School of Canada and had my audition coming up.

Using the book as a reference, I taped a recording for myself guiding me to a relaxed state and then visualized myself successfully auditioning.

I played that recording multiple times a day, for a couple of weeks leading up to my audition.

I also practiced my audition piece and worked on it a lot.

I ended up getting a call back.  I had to prepare another piece and do another audition.

I prepared the new piece.  And I played my visualization recording over and over before the second audition.

I was competing against people all across Canada for one out of fifteen spots. And many more talented people than me.

I was accepted into the school.

I credit the visualization for getting me into the school.  Yes,  I had to do the work and practice my piece.

But the visualization helped me have the confidence to perform it well.

The visualization helped me expect to get accepted into the school.

Getting accepted into the school ended up leading me, in a round about way,  to meeting my wife.

And leading me towards some more Woo Woo,  which I’ll talk about tomorrow.
