Open Burn

We opened our play Burn last night. After weeks of rehearsals.

It’s funny because the audience is such an important ingredient to any show. They provide the extra something.

We put on the play for them, but they give us their attention. And that commerce of sorts results in an energy. And that energy affects the performances.

Each show is a little different because the composition of the audience is different.

Opening nights are usually one of your “better” audiences. Because family and friends often come.

And last night’s show had friends and family.

The show went well.

It is opened.

We entertained our first audience.

At some point during the rehearsal process, you lose perspective of whether the show is any good or not.

You’ve done it so many times. To an empty theatre.

It helps to hear someone else besides your director laughing at the funny parts.

Now we move into the next phase of the production. Recreating the performances for the next few weeks.

I’m happy with the result so far.

There were a couple of minute stumbles. And someone was ready to jump in with a word or an action to help.

It’s a great feeling to feel safe with your fellow actors.

I’m looking forward to burning up the rest of the run.
