I don’t know why I thought the day after the Around the Bay would be pain free.
Probably because most of my long training runs were somewhat pain free.
I did some stretches after the race. I took an Epsom salt bath.
But I’m still a bit creaky today.
The pain isn’t in my thighs. That’s where it usually is after a long run. Today, I’m feeling it in my calves.
I could have stretched more yesterday. Something to consider for next time.
And I should have consumed some carbs right after the run. I was dying for a burger, but I should have gotten some light food into me right after the run.
My victory meal was a banquet burger and some poutine. With a Guinness chaser. Dinner of Champions!
For the next little while, I’ll be taking it easy. I probably won’t go for a run for a week or so.
I’ll go for some walks. That seems to help.
And I’ll do some more stretches. I’ve found some ones for the calves, so we’ll see how it goes.
Even with my achy calves, I’m in less pain than I was when I ran 16 km almost two months ago. So, that’s an improvement.
All in all, I’m feeling pretty good considering the amount of time and the distance that I ran. And the little bit of creakiness is a small price to pay.
