One of my goals for my five-year plan is to earn $500 from a side hustle. I don’t know what the side hustle will be.
Maybe it will be my writing. Maybe it will be something else.
I’ve wanted to have another source of income for years.
But it’s getting from idea to reality that scares me.
Even deciding on an idea scares me.
I made a half hearted attempt a few years ago. I came up with a 30-Day Challenge to start Intermittent Fasting. It’s the “hustling” part of side hustle that scares me.
It’s way beyond my comfort zone.
Shipping, in terms of putting my writing out there is fine. I can do that.
But shipping an idea or a product. Shipping something to sell. Yikes, that’s scary to me.
But I’ve been thinking about it because it’s on the “list”. My Five-Year Plan.
As often happens when I’m thinking about something… Queue the Twilight Zone theme music… Information on that very subject came my way.
I was listening to a random Tim Ferriss podcast. And Tim was interviewing Noah Kagan.
Noah has published a book called The Million Dollar Weekend. I haven’t read the book, but it’s all about creating and developing your side hustle!
Noah talked about how scared people are to ask for money. It’s a huge obstacle for many people.
Tell me about it!
So, Noah has an exercise. You go to a coffee place and ask for 10% off your bill. Just ask. It’s not important whether you get it or not. It’s the point of asking for something.
You will get a strange look. Or a flat out “no”. Or who knows? Maybe you’ll get a 10% reduction.
It’s asking for the little things that helps build up your “asking” muscle. And you will develop the confidence to ask for bigger things.
Then you can ask people to buy your side hustle.
You can ship with confidence.
As for me? Asking for a 10% reduction in my bill sounds terrifying!
