ATB Check-in #1

The other day I was talking about not going too fast with setting goals. Of course, some goals have their own schedules.

I am scheduled to run The Around the Bay (ATB) road race in six weeks. March 24. That is a non-negotiable date.

So, I’ve got to work around that deadline.

I signed up for the race in the Fall of last year. I had plenty of time to train.

But…

You guessed it. I’m behind in my training.

The ATB is a 30-kilometer road race. That’s about 18.6 miles. And this year, because of construction, the route is actually going to be 34km (21.1 miles).

My longest run so far was last week. 16km. But I’ve been negligent in getting my runs in during the week.

One of the drawbacks of running when you get a bit older is recovery time. And I don’t want to push myself too hard.

But I need to push myself a little harder.

I should have run a longer distance this weekend, but I decided to just run 10km today.

This week, I’m going to get in at least two runs during the week. And I will shoot for a long run next weekend of 20km.

There. I’ve said it.

Now, will I do it?
