Be Careful of Going too Fast

It’s good to establish a routine. Something that you can do day in and day out.

Hopefully something that helps you become a better you.

But you’ve got to be careful not to add too much too quickly.

I started the year declaring that I would do a blog post a day. It’s a big, scary goal.

And I’m able to do it, so far, by focusing on today’s post. I don’t worry about tomorrow’s post or next week’s post. Or the 31 posts for March.

Focusing on the day’s task has helped me work on that goal.

But I’ve been adding other things that I want to do on a daily basis. Doing these daily posts has made me confident. And I want to do other things daily.

Work on my music. Write 5 lines of dialogue. Work on my lines for the play that starts rehearsals in April. Train for the Around the Bay race. Exercise. Cook healthy meals. Do my Morning Pages.

Unfortunately, I can feel some things slipping.

I’m adding too much, too quickly.

I’ve got to slow down.

They don’t all have to be done at the same time.

It’s better to have a few habits or routines that are solid. That get done consistently, almost without thinking.

After the routines are solidly entrenched, then is a good time to add another one or two routines.

So, I’m going to slow down. I’m easing off on the other daily goals. I’ll try to do them, but my focus will be on daily posts and writing a few lines of dialogue.

I can see how I’m feeling in a month to see if I can add something else to the mix.
