One of the things that inspired me to challenge myself to write a blog post a day was Seth Godin’s Ship It Calendar. Seth frequently says that people should blog every day.
Easier said than done.
But I thought I could use his calendar as a jumping off point for some posts. I figured that I could just riff off on whatever was the topic of the day from his calendar.
But that hasn’t been the case.
Although I like the calendar, I’m not finding a lot that is inspiring me to share.
That’s not meant as a diss against the calendar. It’s great.
Most of the entries are succinct and don’t need my elaboration or provoke me to share them.
But some of the daily entries have QR codes that link to interviews. And those are usually more provocative.
Yesterday’s interview was with Bryan Elliot. And Bryan told a moving story that included the best piece of advice he received from Seth Godin.
What’s the nugget of wisdom?
No one is going to rescue you.
Seth Godin
We spend a lot of time waiting for someone else to take action. Hoping that someone or something will rescue us.
But the truth is, most of the time we have to rescue ourselves. We have to get ourselves out of the messes we are in.
Now, that doesn’t mean you won’t get help. But help often comes when you’ve started to do the work yourself.
You’ve got to take the first steps forward. You’ve got to work on your own rescue.
If you can get into the mindset that no one is going to rescue you, you are more likely to take action. And rescue yourself.
