Just got off a Zoom call with the Director and rest of the cast for a show called Burn by John Muggleton. Rehearsals will start at the beginning of April.
It was kind of a meet and greet. It’s a small cast. Four actors. And most of us don’t know each other. So, it was nice to put faces to the names.
Even though rehearsals are two months away, it feels like the project has begun. Time to get familiar with the script. Start working on my lines.
I usually have the best intentions to work on a script before the rehearsals start. And then I don’t.
This time will be different.
Arnold Schwarzenegger would read his script every day. Each time he finished reading it, Arnold would make a check mark on the front page. So he could keep track of how many times he had read the script.
He treated going over the script the same way that he treated workouts for body building. You just did them. You put in the work.
I like to reread Steven Pressfield’s book Do the Work before I start a writing project. I’m going to reread it now for this project.
I’m curious to see how my performance will improve if I do the work. If I put in the time and start working before rehearsals start.
Intentions aren’t enough.
You’ve got to get messy and do the work.
I’m looking forward to marking up my script with some check marks.
