Balancing Resistance

A few days ago, I was talking about Resistance. That force that tries to distract us from our goals.

It finds many ways to thwart us from our path.

But there is counter force to that, as well. Steven Pressfield says that the opposite of Resistance is Assistance.

When you declare a goal and start to work towards it, you suddenly get emails or read blog posts that can help you.

Maybe you bump into someone who gives you info that you didn’t know you needed.

Assistance comes in many forms.

Is it magic? It might be the Universe lending you a helping hand or pointing you in the right direction.

Or maybe, you’ve activated your reticular activating system (RAS). Basically, your filter for the world.

We’re bombarded by millions of bits of information every day. The RAS helps you filter out most of it.

And declaring the new goal allows you to see things that were already there. Things you couldn’t see before because they were being filtered out.

Once you set the goal, you created a new filter.

Magic or realistic? That’s up to you to decide.

But either way, there is Assistance for you. To combat the Resistance.
