Living in the Past

Throw back Thursdays. I like the idea of them. Remembering something from your personal history. A memory or a photo. It’s good to look back every now and then.

I’m a firm believer in the adage “He who forgets the past is bound to repeat it.”

The problem is when people get caught up in the nostalgia.

Too many people wish for the days of yore, instead of living their lives of today. Sure, aspects change as the years move on and we miss them. People we care for leave us. Our bodies change. Our dreams shrink.

It would be awesome to recapture those days of youthful exuberance and possibility.

But we’re alive in the present. You can only live your life right now. There’s no value in living or reliving your past.

It’s gone, man.

Wishing for the bygone days keeps you from being fully involved in the moment.

If you think that the old days were so good, you’ll be always looking back. You’ll never be able to see what the present days can offer.

You already lived that time. Come back to the present and live in this moment. There’s still adventures and fun to be had.
