In January, I listened to the podcast The Moment with Brian Koppleman. He was interviewing Seth Godin, who I’ve heard interviewed many times. What was interesting about this interview was that Seth talked about how he had been bullied into accepting a client in the early days of his career.
The experience made him feel terrible and it took him a while to get over it. Part of what helped him move beyond those feelings was listening to Zig Ziglar tapes. He listened to them every day. He filled his head with motivational stuff.
It gave me an insight into Seth and I could definitely see an echo of Ziglar’s philosophy in some of Godin’s ideas.
I had seen Zig Ziglar speak many years ago and he was an inspirational speaker. I decided that if it was good enough for Seth, it would be good enough for me. So for the rest of January, I listened to Zig Ziglar recordings. It’s funny how some stories can be told over and over again and they still keep their power.
We don’t spend enough time putting good stuff into our minds. But we are constantly bombarded with negative things. It takes effort and diligence to counter the pessimism that permeates everyday life. You don’t need to listen to Zig, but you should try to find some things that fill you with joy or help you feel the positive potential within you.
Fuel your mind and spirit with good stuff!
