Revisiting Gratitude

For four years, I had a gratitude practice.

I would list 5 things that I was grateful for. Daily.

They could be big things or little things. There were repeats, obviously.

But it made me think about and be appreciative for what I’ve got.

I started being less consistent in listing my gratitude in the second half of 2022.

And then stopped altogether at the end of September last year.

It’s not that I stopped being grateful. I stopped making it a practice to list things down.

Does it make me less grateful?

No.

But it makes me less mindful of being grateful.

It’s easy to miss the things we have when they’re gone. It’s a different thing to appreciate them while they’re here.

We are wired to notice what is missing. What we lack.

Focusing on what you don’t have is not a recipe for happiness.

It takes effort to acknowledge what we’ve got. Because we take so much for granted.

Give yourself the gift of gratitude.

Think of something in your life that you are grateful for.

It’s good for you.
